Writer’s Block

Recently I was asked to write a first-hand account of my year abroad in China. Of course I said yes; I love to write and I’ve had practice at writing about my experiences abroad. But why is it that I have absolutely no idea how to start this particular article? None of the leads I’ve written are good, let alone original. There’s so much I want to say and I know how I want to say it (which is the hardest part of writing, I find); I just can’t get the beginning right. It’s frustrating, to say the least.

(It’s also 3a.m. I can’t sleep, so I’ve been trying to tackle the lead for this article instead of tossing and turning in bed. Maybe that’s why I’m having trouble with the article’s beginning – my brain needs to recharge!)
