Last week it dawned on me that I did not own a pair of black pants. It didn’t matter if they were dressy or casual, I just did not own black pants, period. Luckily, a trip to H&M rectified this. I still find it a little mind boggling that I work in a career center and intern at Amnesty and didn’t own black pants. I mean, I do have other pants appropriate for work, but black pants are every working girl’s staple.
There was a Job and Internship Fair last Wednesday, which, as a model Career Center student employee, I obviously attended. I managed to find some time between classes to network with the three companies there that interested me the most: Teach for China, Peace Corps, and LivingSocial. I dropped off my resume at one, picked up a business card for another, and scored a ping pong ball and wayfarers. I remember attending the Job and Internship Fair out of curiosity as a freshman to see what the fair was like. Now, as a senior, I’m attending these fairs in search of an internship for the spring and/or a job come graduation in May. When I think of it like that, it’s terrifying.
It’s that time of the semester when the first set of exams and research paper topic proposals are due. I will be spending a large portion of this weekend refining my research paper topic proposals (I’ve written one proposal and two I have yet to start) as well as studying for my upcoming exams. I have an exam I need to take online by midnight on Sunday as well as one I have in class on Thursday. I don’t remember the last time I had an exam that wasn’t in Chinese; it’s surreal to think that I have all these assignments/projects/exams lined up and 95% of them are in English!
