Weekly Wrap-up #14 (powered by Groupons, starting the job search, and reading for fun)

I’ve been scouring sites like Groupon and LivingSocial for deals now for quite some time, but it’s only recently that I’ve actually started to purchase and use them. Last weekend, a friend shared her Groupon for Paper Moon, an absolutely amazing Italian restaurant in Georgetown. On Thursday, I claimed four free cupcakes from Sprinkles thanks to an online deal my roommate discovered. Tomorrow, my roommate and I plan on using a Groupon we bought for a mani/pedi. This deal-hunting stuff is addictive; I seem to be starting a system of stockpiling these deals for future use!

The good thing about it is that it allows me to venture out of my bubble and explore DC some more, especially when it comes to food. I probably never would’ve tried Paper Moon, or bought a Sprinkles cupcake, without these types of deals. But when a girl’s gotta eat, she may as well do it at new places and for as much of a bargain as possible.

This past week I’ve finally started to get my butt in gear and start job searching. I use “job searching” in the loosest form possible because I still don’t feel like I’m ready to completely grow up and graduate college and get a job. But that’s a topic for another day. I met with a recruiter for Teach for China as I’ve been considering applying to be a fellow. I also started doing some research about the Ogilvy Associates Program as they did an info session at my school. I should probably start looking into internships for next semester, too…

I’m writing a paper for my Censorship and the Media class on Roald Dahl’s classic children’s book The Witches. While doing research, I suddenly really wanted to reread the book again for old time’s sake. I had read the book so much when I was younger I basically had the entire text memorized. However, Kindle doesn’t seem to carry any of Dahl’s books in ebook form :( I decided to continue my Thursday Next series reread where I left off at the fifth book, A First Among Sequels. I’m almost finished with it and am excited to continue on to the next novel in the series. It’s so refreshing to be able to read for fun, even if I can’t do it often!
